Had one of these a few years now, replaced an old softener that used cartridge filters in addition to the brine tank. Had to replace the filters quarterly. I used to drain some water from the water heater quarterly and got gritty deposits. Water still had iron and calcium that left deposits. With this unit no filters to replace, no more iron or calcium deposits, get nothing but water from the heater.
